21C MUSEUM IS BRINGING ITS ART HOTEL MAGIC TO THE MAGIC CITY

Just before all the Art Basel madness began in Miami, an unveiling of an actual art hotel happened in the Magic City…sort of.

21c Museum Hotels, a brand that centers its hotel rooms around an ever-evolving contemporary art museum, announced it would open in Miami’s burgeoning Design District in early 2018. The Miami Herald reports that 21c Museum Miami will be located within the forthcoming mixed-use development project HELM Miami, between 42nd and 43rd Streets and Second to Fourth Avenues. That puts the hotel just a few blocks above the glossy shopping center which is home to such primo stores as Hermes, Christian Louboutin, Celine, Cartier, Lanvin, Burberry and Armani.

Aside from a provocative art museum, the 21c hotel will have 135 guest rooms, designed by Deborah Berke Partners; a rooftop pool terrace; a bar and lounge; and a chef-driven restaurant (as if there is any other kind!). And of course, the 21c Museum penguin mascot will make an appearance, or two.

The hotel is not only a perfect fit for Miami’s art-centric soul but having more hotel rooms in this specific area of Miami is actually quite necessary. There are plenty of hotel rooms in downtown and in Brickell—and obviously, on the beach—but being smack in the middle of the Design District will be a huge hit. Oh please do hurry up and get here year 2018!

21c Museum Hotels currently have six locations in the following cities—Louisville (this is the original 21c hotel); Cincinnati; Bentonville, Ark.; Durham; Lexington, Ky.; and Oklahoma City. A new 21c hotel will open in Nashville this spring.
