DRINK UP AND STAY UP AT THE NEW BED AND BEVERAGE HOTELS
Forget bed and breakfasts: the new crop of B&Bs are bed and beverages, bars with rooms attached.
First up, over in LA, nightlife honchos David Kaplan and Alex Day (of New York’s cult bar Death & Co and cocktail consultancy firm, Proprietors LLC’s) have opened their B&B, The Rooms at The Walker Inn. Nestled in LA’s Koreatown, and hidden behind Normandie Club, The Walker Inn (recently named one of the World’s 50 Best Bars) comprises ten rooms. Each has its own identity (mismatched, kitschy interiors, vintage knick-knacks and time-worn objects) and takes cues from its namesake bar, with each room stocked with top-shelf spirits, mixers, a couple of bottled cocktails and seasonal ingredients to DIY your own cocktails. In London, in the heart of Notting Hill, is the newly opened ‘gin hotel’, The Distillery. Start with cocktails on the ground floor bar, the Resting Room, before ambling up to the first floor Spanish bar and restaurant, GinTonica, serving G&Ts in the classic Copa de Balón style, before hitting the pillow on the top floor in one of three boutique hotel rooms. And don’t leave without delving into The Ginstitute Experience, an immersive gin history ‘lesson’ held in the basement of The Distillery.
Lastly, the team behind the Experimental Cocktail Club is set to open its first hotel in the UK in London’s Covent Garden. The Henrietta Hotel will be a sister venue to their trailblazing bed and beverage Grand Pigalle Hotel in Paris. Aside from the 18 rooms, there’ll be a 60-cover basement cocktail bar, and of course, its restaurant Henrietta, run by Michelin chef Ollie Dabbous.
