Our fellow contributor Juliana talked just yesterday about Bulgari Hotels expanding from its existing three hotels (Milan, Bali, and London) to Shanghai, Beijing, and Dubai – and possibly beyond.

As she wrote this, we happened to have a direct view of the man-made, seahorse-shaped island that will house Bulgari Dubai from our hotel room at the Four Seasons Dubai at Jumeirah Beach. That currently looks something like this (incidentally, the island is the brainchild of the owner of the Four Seasons).

Curious what it will look like when completed? That would be the following.

Jumeira Bay Island
Jumeira Bay Island

Only in Dubai is this not the craziest man-made island around. Clearly it is very early stages for construction of the various buildings, which will include the hotel (100 rooms and 20 hotel villas), 173 apartments and 15 mansions, and a marina. The development is being designed by Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel and Partners, an Italian architect (perhaps not a surprise there). A few more impressions of the resort, villas, and ‘lush landscaped gardens’ below.

While a 2017 opening seems ambitious, Dubai construction is mostly a round-the-clock affair, so things can progress at breakneck speed. We’ll keep you posted, and will have more on other (less, equally, and perhaps more crazy) Dubai projects soon.
