Forget the traditional restaurant setup: hotels are increasingly letting guests get their hands dirty in order to appreciate the provenance of their plate. From foraging to butchery to fishing, these immersive cooking experiences mean guests are guaranteed to return home with some serious culinary skills – in addition to some unique #foodporn shots for the ‘Gram…

HUNTSHAM COURT

Sitting pretty in the rolling Devonshire countryside, Huntsham Court is a Grade II-listed Victorian country retreat (with 34 incredible bedrooms, complete with those covetable roll-top bathtubs) that you can rent out in its entirety (we’re already planning our next landmark birthday with it in mind…). They’ve recently launched their brilliant F.E.A.S.T project, which stands for Finding Excellence Around a Shared Table. Guests get divvied up into teams and are sent out to find their supper within a 20-mile radius of Huntsham Court, with hunting, foraging and fly-fishing all within Exmoor National Park. When the work is done, participants return back to the manor and chefs Peter Mundy and Miguel Tenreiro work their magic, turning their efforts into a supper fit for kings.

Back on British soil and pairing food with art, prestigious art gallery Hauser & Wirth in Somerset combines a full range of contemporary artworks with a Grade II-listed farmhouse and six perfectly designed bedrooms. Roth & Grill is the name of its restaurant, which is a bit of a hidden gem. Dry-curing all their meats in their salt room (made from Himalayan salt bricks), Hauser & Wirth also offer Uncut & Unhooked courses to learn the basics of fishery and butchery.
