FIVE NEW HOTEL OPENINGS TO ROUND OUT YOUR 2016

We’re not quite ready to roll out the Master Hotel Openings List for 2017 just yet, but since you’ve all been good little boys and girls, we’re giving you a stocking stuffer of sorts—5 new hotel openings that have us merry AF. Happy Holidays!

EDITION SANYA

At long last, there’s another EDITION to obsess over. If only we could easily hop a flight to Sanya, China. But no matter. The 512-room resort is now at the top of our hotel bucket list with tantalizing amenities such as a five-acre private ocean overlooking the South China Sea;  stunning sculptures from Chinese artists; four restaurants and two bars (including an outpost of MARKET, one of our favorite places to nosh in Miami); a mini-amusement park for children called Playland; and even its own art gallery exclusively curated by Ullens Center of Contemporary Art. Reservations are now being accepted. Santa baby….

POLI HOUSE TEL AVIV

Designer/architect Karim Rashid has returned to the world of hotel design with the new Poli House, a 40-room boutique hotel now open within a 1930s Bauhaus-style building on the Mediterranean Sea. Described as an “experimental luxury” hotel, Rashid sought to embody the essence of Tel Aviv’s past, present and future. The past was an easy task thanks to the building’s history (it was erected in 1934.) The present involves mood lighting and LED screens in the elevators along with the modern traveler’s top needs such as WiFi, soundsystems and wellness options. The future? Well, that’s all Karim with his “digitally-driven ornamentation and form” which can be found throughout the hotel.

NOBU LONDON SHOREDITCH

Even though Nobu has just unveiled a hotel in Miami (within a tower at the Eden Roc), we’re already eager for a taste of their next property, in London’s Shoreditch neighborhood. The 150-room hotel will stick to the original Nobu Hotels menu, meaning a luxurious East-meets-West design and a restaurant, bar and room service operation all created by Nobu Matsuhisa himself. However, this Nobu will fall in line with the edgy vibe of Shoreditch, thanks to a helter-skelter architectural design from Ben Adams Architects.

SLS SEATTLE

Similarly, even though SLS Brickell just opened last month, we’re quite excited to see what SLS will do in Seattle, a city that’s not necessarily known for the glitzy Beverly Hills glamour that SLS tends to drape its hotels in  So far, it looks like SLS is going to keep doing SLS which means Philippe Starck design in the 184 guest rooms, a José Andrés restaurant, and and of course, several little spaces devoted to naughtiness, or so we presume. Also of note: SLS plans on opening two new hotels within larger residential properties in Zihuatanejo and Cancún, Mexico in the coming years.

ACE HOTEL CHICAGO

We admit it. We saved the best for last. If all goes well (fingers crossed so tightly), Ace Hotel will open their next hotel in Chicago this spring. Located at 311 N. Morgan St., in the city’s Fulton Market District, the Ace will have 159-rooms and all the accoutrements that make Ace, well, Ace. So that means delicious food downstairs, Stumptown coffee, Pendleton blankets on the bed, design that is imbued with the soul of the city, and potentially, some rooftop action. You can peek some of the latest construction photos here for a glimpse into the future of this Ace.
