WELCOME TO THE COLLECTIVE: FROM WINE BLUFF TO WINE BUFF

Now there’s good wine, and then there’s good wine. Know the difference? We’ll let you in on a little-known secret: sometimes, it can simply be a matter of taste. Wine talk can be a tad intimidating for the average wine bluff, especially when the buff crows about how ‘mineral’ or ‘leathery’ their wine tastes. But behind the fancy lingo thrown around by said wine connoisseurs lies a healthy dose of appreciation for the drink – and there’s naught wrong with that. Whether you know your Pinot Grigios from your Picpoul de Pinets, wine’s still a pleasure worth indulging in.

Meet the three brand-new exhibitors joining the collective who agree, and who offer up local vineyards to ensure guests walk away from their stay jovially gabbing wine jargon like a pro.

French wine is the bomb, but who would dream of overlooking the vino in Italy? Wine from a vigneto is made from a completely different bunch of grapes, and the Italian stallions (and mares, of course) at Castello Di Velona Resort & Spa are damn proud of it. This gorgeous, renovated fortress, distinctive in its warm, earthy Tuscan design, sits in grounds filled with olive trees and vineyards, which produce the world-renowned Brunello di Montalcino – a highly esteemed red known for its bold fruit flavours and high acidity.

Offering guests an authentic experience with full exposure to Tuscan delicacies and tradition is of the utmost importance there: so alongside a wine tasting masterfully conducted by their sommelier, these passionate Italians go a step further by holding wine-making sessions with their in-house enologist. This way, they ensure that there’s no chance guests leave their estate without becoming fully versed in the reds and riches of their region.
