The Betsy has had its own Writers Room since 2012, having hosted over 500 writers in that time. To take the power of that work out into the community, it created a poetry programme for under-served children, partnering with South Florida Cares Mentoring, the Wege Foundation and the Miami Dade County Public Schools to create a real writing room, bring working writers into the neighbourhood and hosting public poetry performances for participating children at the hotel.
