BE PART OF THE ART CROWD WITH OUR ART BASEL MIAMI HOTEL HITLIST

If you’ve been on a remote island without internet access, first off, welcome back to the land of the connected. Second, you have come back in contact during one of the most wonderful, and borderline-psychotic, times of the year in Miami—Art Basel. Named for the modern and contemporary art show that’s held at (LE’s Miami home) the Miami Beach Convention Center, Art Basel has evolved from a few days of serious collectors and dealers slanging art into a week-long rager with cool art hanging out in the background. Over the years, Art Basel has also spawned several other mini-shows and art-related events throughout town (some with loose relations to actual art) bringing this entire week to be called Miami Art Week.

Naturally, Miami hotels, being proud collectors of contemporary art, are more than eager to celebrate creative brilliance this week. Here’s what you should see when you alight into Magic City. Er, you have already booked your room, right?

1 HOTEL SOUTH BEACH: The 1 is combining music with art by featuring artist Daniel Mazzone’s work in a dedicated gallery from now through December 4, as well as hosting nightly live music events. The hotel is even showing off the art of wellness by unveiling their new, long-awaited Bamford Spa.

NAUTILUS SOUTH BEACH:  All week long this sweet Sixty Hotel will be hosting the pop-up Up & Down Tent with nightly musical performances. Throughout the hotel various installations and artwork will be on display, while Misaki Kaiwai has painted a special brightly colored mural on the pool deck.

EAST HOTEL, MIAMI: What party or event isn’t EAST hosting? The new hotel in Brickell has had a full dance card every night this week, practically redefining the art of a party. Now that the fair has officially kicked off today, expect EAST to keep on twirling. Need a break? The newly opened Brickell City Centre, which is attached to the hotel, will give you some respite, in the form of high-end retail and restaurants.

EDITION MIAMI BEACH: Basement at EDITION is only two years old but already it’s approaching legendary status, which means that during Art Basel, it will be even tougher to get inside without an invite. May we recommend studying the art of a perfect hotel lobby instead?

FAENA MIAMI BEACH: Faena is not just celebrating Art Week but also its one-year anniversary. And like EAST, Faena has been partying all week long. First, there was the unveiling of Faena Forum (a performing arts center) and Faena Bazaar (a wondrous retail space that’s showcasing pop-up shops all week long), accompanied by a rousing street parade led by Tide by Side. Then came the Faena Art TimeCapsule, a geodesic dome on the beach draped in a Faena printed curtain and which has hosted art talks as well as a special Kendrick Lamar concert. Meanwhile, the hotel’s Pao restaurant is hosting a Night Market every night featuring food from different chefs inspired by the food stalls of Southeast Asia. Oh and don’t forget about the gilded Damien Hirst wooly mammoth enclosed in glass out back…

SLS SOUTH BEACH:
Over at SLS South Beach, the hotel has had a different kind of Miami facelift courtesy of legendary street artist Mr. Brainwash, whose colouring-crazy facade is the perfect invitation to the pink and white wonderland inside.
