To get the last bit of (sad) news out of the way first: the Bangkok EDITION, one of our five hotels to look out for in 2016, is not going to reveal its full pixelated glory until next year. We will have to wait until 2017, with no firmer window than that right now.

Moving on to happier tidings, that same year, EDITION Hotels will open The Barcelona EDITION, a 100-room hotel in Ciutat Vella next to the Santa Caterina Market. A conversion of an existing office building, the hotel will have ‘three distinct restaurant experiences, along with an activated lobby space, club and rooftop bar area’.

We don’t have any interior renderings for Barcelona yet, but we do have more on The Sanya EDITION, which with the Bangkok delay is now the one EDITION arrival still on the books for 2016 (other hotels are Abu Dhabi, Shanghai (2017), Times Square, West Hollywood, Reykjavik, Bali (2018) and Dubai (2019)).

A 50-acre property on Hainan Island, the horseshoe-shaped hotel will be large, with 512 rooms (of which 46 are suites) and 17 villas.

Rooms are a spacious 65 square meters, with 3 meter-high ceilings. As is evident in the rendering, the colour palette is neutral, with stone floors, light oak, and bathtubs out in the open, breaking the boundary between bedroom and bathroom.

Reception will feature a lotus pool and live bamboo grove, while the hotel will have four restaurants and two bars. There will be a spa, separate adult and family pools, as well as a Sky Bar with rooftop pool. Opening should happen in the second half of the year.
