We just talked about Bed & Beverage being the new B&B, bars that happen to have rooms attached. In a time filled with craft cocktails, endless popups and jam jars repurposed as glassware, why not?

The gentlemen behind Experimental Group – already offering 17 places to drink, eat, and (sometimes) sleep in Paris, London, New York and Ibiza – are bringing their first London B&B to Covent Garden: The Henrietta Hotel. Sister hotel to 9th arr. Parisian bolthole the Grand Pigalle, The Henrietta will have just 18 rooms on Henrietta Street, southwest of Covent Garden (vs. southeast where Robert De Niro wants to open The Wellington).

Alongside the rooms there will be a restaurant run by chef Ollie Dabbous and, of course, a cocktail bar. Both Experimental Cocktail Club and La Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels are also short walk away in Chinatown and towards Seven Dials, respectively.

Opening is on the books for March; this is what we saw on a sunny but frigid January morning. Underneath the scaffolding more of the red brick, bow front façade you see on the right is hiding. Two months to cutting the ribbon may feel a little tight, but let’s say pre-summer and take it from there.

The Henrietta’s interiors are designed by Dorothée Meilichzon in a ‘chic fusion of ornate Victoriana and sleek Art Deco’. We only have glimpses of the rooms at this point, showing dark carpets and light marble skirting, a floating armoire and double doors to the bathroom – complete with half-moon window just above. If you’re wondering what headboard design you’re spying in the corner, here are a few more close-ups.

Those are some serious architectural headboards, with a mix of white and dark blue alongside a patterned grey just above the bed. We love the brass lamps and bedside tables.

We’ll have to wait and see what the hand-painted mural that ‘fills the entire ceiling, drawing the eye upwards to accentuate the soaring atrium’ looks like in the two-story restaurant, which will be a modern British bistro. The hotel’s website is still a placeholder, so we don’t have more on room types and the like, but they will start from £250 a night.

Also coming in 2017 from Experimental Group? A second Parisian hotel: the Grand Boulevard. More on that to come.
