Just shy of a year ago, we talked about everything that Nobu Hotels has planned for us over the next few years. As the months rolled by, Robert De Niro and Nobu Matsuhisa made a stop in Illinois to put a shovel into the ground for Nobu Chicago, we kept an eye on the construction over in Shoreditch, and things got going for the brand’s future flagship: Nobu Eden Roc Miami Beach.

We can vouch for the progress over in Miami, having seen first-hand what Nobu is cooking up in the historic Morris Lapidus-designed tower next to Fontainebleau and Soho Beach House. Floor by floor the – rather gorgeous – Rockwell Group interiors are finding their way into the building, with pale wood, lanterns on the bedside tables, intricate nature-inspired wall covers and black-and-white prints creating an altogether soothing context for a few days of beach and sushi.

What’s more, this month the hotel is adding an outpost of Helene Henderson’s Malibu Farm to its F&B options (another one has appeared – along with, surprise, a Nobu restaurant – at the Four Seasons Lanai, following its Larry Ellison no-holds-barred, spectacular redo).

And don’t worry, it may be far from California, but it couldn’t be closer to its spiritual home – the ocean. The restaurant will be set in a purpose-built structure right at the edge of the property, along the boardwalk and the golden sand beyond. It will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, with ‘simple farm-to-table dining that is fresh, organic and locally sourced whenever possible’.

This view from above we had from the balcony of a Zen Suite, which shows the restaurant in the upper-left corner. That oval shape you see on the roof? That will be a fourth pool for the resort, this one exclusive for Nobu Hotel guests (the other three are shared with those staying in the Eden Roc tower, rising above the lower floors you see just in frame on the right).

The palm trees lead you between said pool, Malibu Farm, Nobu restaurant inside and Spa Eden Roc. There are worse options to be faced with when staying at a hotel, wouldn’t you say?
