Still deciding where to spend some of the summer months this year? Here is one suggestion that will combine two much-coveted things: a brand new hotel and a glamorous lakeside setting.

Think we are exaggerating? Just look at it.

Commissioned by the family behind Le Sereno Saint-Barthélemy, Il Sereno Lago di Como will bring 30 contemporary suites (and only suites) with lake views and private balconies to a promontory next to the village of Torno, a short drive from Como itself.

Lakeside suites start at 60m2 (600 sq ft), while the Penthouse is more than three times that size and has a private terrace and garden with rooftop lap pool.

What designer Patricia Urquiola has dreamed up for the interiors of the suites themselves we don’t know yet, but renderings of the public spaces downstairs and extensive terraces give a first indication of the ‘contemporary and more relaxed interpretation of luxury, design and personalised service’ Il Sereno wishes to bring to Como.

The hotel’s restaurant will focus on simple and fresh food from Northern Italy, with indoor, covered outdoor, and terrace seating. A light menu is served by the pool for hotel guests. A spa and fitness centre will be available as well.

Il Sereno is expected to open in June – while reservations aren’t live yet, we can tell you that expected rates range between €780 and €4,210.
