Muji are somewhat of a force to be reckoned with on the global high street. With over 650 stores from Sydney to Stockholm, they’re most well-known for their high quality, minimalist homewares, clothes and stationary.

Their first foray into the hotel business means their properties are on course to be super stylish, with the first one said to open its doors at the end of this year in China’s trendy Shenzhen. It’ll join a slew of other new hot hotels in the area – such as the Mandarin Oriental Shenzhen, which is also slated to open in 2017. The new Muji hotel is rumoured to be made up of 79 rooms split across five categories and have sleek recycled wood interiors. The property will also have its own restaurant and fitness centre. Fully tricked out with Muji products, the rooms will be filled with everything that Muji stock, from furniture to all the amenities. Any design inspiration you pick up from the hotel, you should be able to buy from the well-stocked Muji store that’ll be located below the hotel.

Following on from the 2017 opening in Shenzhen, Muji have another hotel in the pipeline, opening in Tokyo in spring 2019. The hotel will be located in the coveted Ginza District on Namiki Street in a brand new 10-storey retail and hotel complex that will have shops from the basement to the sixth floor (three of the floors will sit below ground), with the hotel sitting on the remaining top floors. The project is in good hands, with Ryohin Keikaku and UDS (who bill themselves as ‘shaping tomorrow’s community in urban living’) behind the design.

We can’t wait.
