PROPER HOTELS TO MAKE ITS PROPER DEBUT IN HOLLYWOOD THIS SUMMER
The burgeoning hotel scene of Downtown Los Angeles has been catching all the buzz lately, with hot brands like Freehand, Dazzler, Esplendor, Hotel Indigo, and W Hotels expected to open there within the coming years. But may we remind you (again) that Hollywood is also having its own hotel moment. And the next star to make its Hollywood debut is the Hollywood Proper, opening in late June. This will be the first Proper Hotel ever to open so it’s doubly exciting.
Set within the former CBS Broadcast Facility on Sunset Boulevard, which has been transformed into Columbia Square–a new modern media village–the 23-story Hollywood Proper offers a mix of luxury residences and furnished units, that latter of which will be open for extended stays of seven nights or more.
Aside from residences and suites, Proper will have a rooftop bar and lounge–that’s open to the public–with incredible 360 views of the Hollywood Hills, the Griffith Observatory, downtown, and West Los Angeles. (On a spectacularly clear day, you’ll be able to see the ocean.) A coffee bar and casual restaurant will also be open to locals, starting in late summer.
The interior design of the furnished suites was led by Kelly Wearstler Interior Design who chose a more earthy, organic, relaxed Californian vibe, which is a welcome contrast to her highly stylized interiors of Viceroy Hotels. Custom furnishings include fine wood cabinetry along with artwork and design from local artists. But the rooms at Proper still exude a very luxe look that’s in line with the new soulful Hollywood sensibility.
Proper will also have a bit more technology than most hotels, including keyless entry, a Proper mobile app, and the services of a dedicated Proper Tech Concierge, who can set up the suite with whatever gadgets or connections a guest may need during their stay. Other luxe amenities include 24-hour room service, grocery delivery, VIP lifestyle concierge, housecleaning, and access to on-call doctors.
Bookings are not yet open on the Proper website, but we did learn that introductory rates will start at $395 a night for a one-bedroom furnished unit and $650 a night for a tw0-bedroom furnished unit. The penthouse suites (there are four) start at $5,000 a night.
Meanwhile, in other Hot Hollywood Hotel news, The Dream Hotel Hollywood, which we sneak peeked at in February, may no longer make its summer opening date. But the hotel has announced that NYC and Vegas’ Tao Group will be handling their F&B. So you can expect this place to be popping when it does open.
