WELCOME TO THE COLLECTIVE: APRIL 2017
As our Instagram feed becomes overloaded with blossom and blue skies, we’re beating a retreat from the cities and dreaming of rural hideaways with a relaxed spirit. Whether you’re feeling more Spanish hillside, Nicaraguan forest or Ibizan coastline, these April additions to the LE 2017 collective are calling your name…
NAME: La Donaira Guesthouse
LOCATION: Cádiz, Spain
CAUSE: Promoting sustainable farming techniques in the Spanish countryside
More than just a hotel, La Donaira is 250 hectares of sprawling farmland and good intentions in the Spanish countryside. This 8-bedroom finca is made up of pasture, gardens, vineyards and forest, with herds of cattle, sheep and chickens raised on the land alongside a stable of over 60 Lusitano horses. Together, they form a bucolic paradise where guests can take a hack by horseback, dive into the natural outdoor pool or stroll through the herb garden, vegetable patches and beehives (the products of which end up on your plate). The farm element is run according to biodynamic principles and hosts workshops and lectures by global specialists at the onsite Soil Academy; meanwhile, the accompanying hotel contains a revamped spa, hammam and cosy, rustic accommodation in-keeping with its rural roots.
NAME: Nekupe Sporting Resort And Retreat
LOCATION: Nandaime, Nicaragua
CAUSE: Nourishing mind, body and soul through the wild beauty of the Nicaraguan forest
This 1300-acre Nicaraguan nature reserve grew from the seeds of a dream by husband and wife duo Don Alfredo and Doña Theresa, who initially bought the land as a private sanctuary. Today, Nekupe Sporting Resort and Retreat encompasses three artificial lakes and an animal sanctuary including more than 14,000 trees that were planted as part of a reforestation drive; as a result, more than 12% of Nicaragua’s animal species live within its borders. Consequently, guests can spot howler monkeys, lovebirds and sloths from the comfort of one of the four suites or four villas on the property, all of which are largely solar-powered and enveloped in the local landscape, with views of the sunrise, sunset and Mombacho Volcano. There’s also a spa, chapel and an array of physically and creatively challenging activities to choose from, whether you prefer tackling the ropes course, learning to play the Marimba or poetry reading by the firepit.
NAME: Seven Pines Resort
LOCATION: Ibiza, Balearic Islands
CAUSE: Catering for the angel AND devil on your shoulder in Balearic style
The ultimate angel/devil destination of Ibiza means that whether you’re looking to atone for your excess or dive right into temptation, Seven Pines Resort has you covered. A series of louche, minimalist suites (choose between Pool Suites opening on to the lagoon-like pool, Garden Suites around the resort’s gardens or Bay Suites overlooking the Es Vedrà island and the sea) offer a glamorous retreat to nurse your hangover – or if you’re feeling more sprightly, you can throw some (yoga) shapes on the clifftops, sign up for a diving or underwater photography course, or take to the on-site medical spa or ice grotto. Alternatively, when the sun heads below the waves strut down to the resort’s restaurant, champagne lounge or nightclub to tap into Ibiza’s established hedonist spirit.
