WELCOME TO THE COLLECTIVE: 3 ROOFTOP BARS WITH KILLER VIEWS
As we swing our way into spring, we’re introducing three of the collective’s city rooftop hangouts that are perfect for warm days and evenings filled with stunning skylines and strong liquor.
CAUSE: Combining Roman flair with spectacular sunsets.
Few experiences compare to spending a summer’s evening gazing over the reddish sea of church domes that adorn the Roman skyline. Wedged between the Piazza di Spagna and Piazza del Popolo in the central storico, The First’s panoramic view from its rooftop bar and restaurant tempts travellers and locals to ditch their cram-packed schedules and wile away a few hours watching the sun’s rays sink below the brick. Add sipping on the bar’s more inventive cocktails to the agenda (think zesty, Italian-inspired flavours like citrus, limoncello and prosecco), and sundown drinks at this rooftop hotspot swiftly move from the ‘nice-to-do’ to ‘must-do’ section on travellers’ itineraries.
CAUSE: Showing off downtown Chicago from a new, refreshing angle.
For those braving the strong, sweltering rays in the suddenly not-so-Windy City between June and September, the breezy rooftop retreat Upstairs at The Gwen serves up refreshing views with beverages to match. Its airy, 3,000-square-foot space – swathed in a palette of charcoals and blacks with fuchsia accents – looks out over a rare clearing of the Chicago metropolis, allowing hot-and-bothered socialites to float amongst a handful of glass and stone skyscrapers. Between lapping up prosecco pops – ice lollies bathed in a chilled pool of bubbly – and lounging in the open space, a trip to Upstairs feels as cool on the skin as it looks on travellers’ Instagram feeds.
CAUSE: Driving Austin’s high-end renaissance.
While the hotly anticipated THE LINE ATX in Austin is due to open this spring, its rooftop restaurant and bar P6 will continue to create a stir until its grand opening in the summer of this year. The details are still being kept under wraps, but our intel tells us to expect a vibe that combines Austin’s hippy, creative energy with the sophisticated sass of high-life service – which will be amped up to the max with 180-degree views stretching from the Town Lake to the furthest tips of South Austin. Meanwhile, news of Rising Stars chef Damien Brockway – Austin’s newfound culinary darling – heading up P6’s kitchen is whetting appetites before the grand opening. Watch this space for more tantalising updates.
